Day 980: Dorothy Parker’s Parrot, Onan

A star of the Algonquin Roundtable during the 1920s, witty Dorothy Parker named her parrot, “Onan,” because he spilled his seed on the ground (Genesis 38:9).

Dorothy Parker’s droll sayings abound
And one for which she is renowned
Claimed her male parrot’s name
Was of Genesis fame.
Her Onan spilled seed on the ground.
