Day 928: Cape Verde

Contrary to what their name implies, the Cape Verde Islands are mostly dry and rarely green.  They are volcanic and Fogo, the island that Laetitia’s cruise ship visited, has an active one.  During times when the volcano is quiet, villages are built in the caldera.  Needless to say, when the volcano erupts as it did in 2014, those residents are quickly evacuated.

The Cape Verde Island called Fogo
Is named for fire from its volcano.
There black lava abounds
And when it flows down
It makes caldera living a no-no.
